As early as possible — ideally while the layout is still being decided. Where the island, range, vent hood and lighting go determines where circuits must run, and it is far cheaper to plan that before framing and drywall than to open finished walls later. We are happy to look at plans before demolition starts.
Often it needs a look first. A modern kitchen alone can require several dedicated circuits — range, oven, dishwasher, disposal, microwave, refrigerator, plus GFCI-protected counter circuits. Adding that to a 100-amp service that also runs the rest of the house frequently calls for an electrical panel upgrade or a subpanel. We run the load calculation as part of the estimate.
We stop and show you what is there before doing anything else. Older wiring is common in Seattle-area homes and it is not automatically an emergency, but it does affect insurance, resale and what can safely be added. Depending on the scope, the answer ranges from replacing the affected circuits to a partial or full rewire while the walls are already open — which is by far the cheapest time to do it.
New circuits, moved circuits, panel changes and most rewiring do. The permit is pulled either through your city or through Washington State L&I depending on where you live, and the work is inspected before walls are closed. We handle the permit, schedule the rough-in inspection at the right point in the build, and return for the final.
