Washington does allow homeowners to do some electrical work on their own primary residence with a homeowner’s permit and inspection — but in practice, mistakes are dangerous and expensive: fire risk, failed inspections, insurance problems, and trouble when selling the home. Anything involving the panel, new circuits, or 240V should be done by a licensed electrician. A good rule of thumb: swapping a light fixture on an existing box is reasonable DIY territory; for anything beyond that, calling us costs less than repairing DIY damage.
